FROM BIOCHEMISTRY TO BROADCASTING: HOW OLAWALE PERFECT BUILT WIGRADIO INTO A GLOBAL MISSION

 The Root Gazette Africa

When passion meets purpose, great things are born. For Olawale Perfect, a First Class graduate of Biochemistry from the University of Lagos, the expected career path was academia research, advanced studies, and lecturing. But destiny had a different script. Today, he stands tall as the CEO of WiGRadio, one of Nigeria’s pioneering online gospel radio stations, and Pastor in Charge of Foursquare City Takers Assembly.

In this exclusive feature with The Root Gazette Africa, Olawale shares his journey from science to the microphone, the inspiration behind WiGRadio, and his advice to the next generation of media trailblazers.

THE BIRTH OF A VISION

Olawale recalls his service year as the defining moment of his career shift.
“I spent that period praying and asking God what He would have me do next,” he says. “While I was considering advanced studies in Biochemistry, God laid it on my heart that He had an assignment for me in the media.”

Obedient to that calling, Olawale pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication. By the end of his program, he sensed a clear directive to start a radio station. Though the cost of setting up a terrestrial station seemed overwhelming, divine inspiration pointed him toward an online platform. With determination, research, and grace, WiGRadio was officially launched in 2013 a groundbreaking move at the time.

MEDIA MEETS MISSION

For Olawale, WiGRadio is more than just a media house; it is a mission field.
“Our vision is to reach the world with good news,” he emphasizes.

The station’s work is deeply intertwined with missions across Africa. WiGRadio has partnered with CAPRO (Calvary Ministries), helping the agency establish its first online radio station. Beyond that, the team has supported missionary activities in countries such as Benin, Togo, and Burkina Faso, ensuring that gospel outreach is amplified through media.

“For us, missions and media are not separate; they go hand in hand. While missionaries are on the ground, we provide the media coverage that spreads their impact further.”

WORDS TO THE NEXT GENERATION

As a pioneer in online gospel broadcasting, Olawale is keen on guiding aspiring media entrepreneurs. His advice?
“Carve out a unique niche. Don’t try to be everything, and don’t copy others. Build something distinct that will stand you out.”

He also stresses that money should never be the starting point:
“Don’t make financial gain your first priority. Focus on creating value, and the money will follow.”

A LEGACY OF PURPOSE

From biochemistry labs to gospel airwaves, Olawale Perfect embodies what it means to walk in divine assignment. WiGRadio’s story is proof that when passion aligns with purpose, the impact can transcend borders.

For listeners across Nigeria and beyond, WiGRadio is not just a station it is a movement, spreading good news, one broadcast at a time.
