Can we meet you, Hon. Ma?
Good evening. I’m Mrs. Abimbola Adeola Idowu, Commissioner IV at the Teaching Service Commission, proudly representing the good people of Badagry Division.
Was there ever a tough moment in your career where a particular habit or mindset really helped you push through?
If I’m being honest, it hasn’t always been easy, especially when you step into a leadership role that involves policymaking and decision-making. You have to constantly equip yourself with the right knowledge and skills to keep up and make an impact.
For me, determination to succeed, a growth-oriented mindset, and self-discipline have been the habits that keep me going.
If you had to name your top three go-to habits for thriving in this space, what would they be?
First, prayer is key, it grounds and guides me. I also make it a point to attend seminars and conferences for continuous personal development. And third, regular self-reflection helps me stay aligned with my purpose.
What would you say to young women who want to get into politics but are worried about losing themselves in the process?
No woman should venture into politics without being fully prepared—mentally, intellectually, and emotionally. Education is non-negotiable. It’s the foundation every woman must have to stand confidently beside her male counterparts.
Finally you also need to have a clear sense of purpose and be intentional in all that you do. Empathy and integrity should guide your actions. And above all, always take responsibility and stand firmly for what is true and right.
THE POWER OF INFLUENCE: BE AN AGENT OF CHANGE
In a world constantly evolving, influence is one of the most powerful tools anyone can possess. It goes beyond fame or position, it’s about the ability to inspire thought, shift perspectives, and spark action. Whether you're a teacher, leader, entrepreneur, or community member, your words, actions, and choices can create ripple effects that reach far beyond what you see.
Being an agent of change starts with intention. It means standing for something greater than yourself, using your platform big or small, to uplift others and drive positive transformation. Real influence isn’t loud; it’s consistent. It’s found in daily acts of kindness, in courageous conversations, and in the willingness to challenge the status quo for the betterment of all.
We each have a circle we can impact. Start there. Lead with empathy. Listen more. Speak truth. Educate. Empower. When we use our influence with purpose, we become catalysts for growth, healing, and justice in our communities.
Don’t underestimate the power of your voice or the value of your example. Be the kind of person who doesn’t just witness change but makes it happen. The world needs more agents of change.
Why not you?
